It gives out Shakespeare's 'The Tempest' vibes as even the Duke of Milan calls ' three men of sin ' on an unknown island. But there's a mastermind even worse than the ministers of fate ( Duke of Milan, Ariel and other spirits) in 'The Tempest' as it takes real efforts for a human psychopath to execute his crime than those invisible spirits. So the story revolves around how efficiently the psychopath is able to succeed with his plan without disturbing his pattern, how he played with their minds ( he was definitely good at controlling human psyche), his motive behind it and why he targetted all convicted murderers. Was he a psychopath for good? Do find that out.
