The Count of Monte Cristo: summary, themes, review


'The Count of Monte Cristo' is a classic french novel ( English translation available ) written by Alexandre Dumas wherein a 19 yrs old boy Edmund Dantes is getting married to his lover. On the day of their wedding he gets arrested. It was a conspiracy of his fiancee's cousin as he liked her. After many yrs of trying to convince Mercedes, her cousin is finally able to marry her . When he gets out of prison, he is already 33 yrs old. By then she was already married to her cousin and had children with him . The novel is about Edmund's struggle to escape the prison followed by his adventure, how he becomes count of Monte Cristo and how he takes his revenge. During his journey, Edmund meets another girl- Haidee, with whom he shares a common enemy and learns that he has wronged many people.


It has a sweet kind of a romance at the end. It is most suitable for tweenagers. But even children below tweenage can read it . If you love to read about adventure then this novel is for you.
